Achievement
Undaunted by various odds, BKNS has forged ahead in its mission and goals :
1. Reached millions of people of which 60% are from slums of janjgir champa and
other similar slums in G and H wards of janjgir Champa.
2. 30,000 patients have been cured with MDT
3. Disabilities have been prevented in 2500 patients.
4. 300 leprosy patients and physically challenged persons have been benefitted under the
Integrated Rehabilitation programme.
FUTURE PLANS
A Decadal dream by 2020
>> Strengthening of BKNS's Referral Centre of leprosy and satellite
clinics to meet leprosy patients needs.
>> Identify leprosy patients at risk of developing disabilities and
relapse and provide timely treatment.
>> Long term follow up of the patients treated with chemotherapy for
mopping up clinical problems and nerve damage.
>> Extension of prevention of disability (POD) services to reach the
unreached in remote, inaccessible rural/tribal areas through mobile service units.
>> Net working with other institutions for research in laboratory
aspects in the management of leprosy cases.
>> Undertake studies for the prevention of nerve damage through
field monitoring and steroid therapy/newer drugs.
>> Running C.M.E in Leprosy through academic meetings, seminars and
workshops.
>> Socio-economic rehabilitation of cured and handicapped patients.
All the above leprosy relief activities need to be sustained with the objective of marching
towards the goal of reaching "World Without Leprosy".
